Staley Upper Elementary staff raised awareness for autism in April. Staff wore their, ‘Give A Hoot! Autism Awareness’ t-shirts every Friday during April and donated a $1 each week. “The building wide initiative raised a total of $346 so sensory equipment can be purchased," said Nikki DeBlasiis, speech teacher who helped to coordinate the effort.
On Saturday, April 16th students from Staley participated in the Elementary All County Music Festival. Held at New Hartford High School, there were Staley representatives in the Orchestra, Band and Chorus, said Staley Music Teacher, Shannon Proctor. A special note, Ella Hannafon, in Orchestra was selected as the Concertmaster.
Staley Upper Elementary School held their annual One School, One Book month assembly on Friday, March 4th unveiling the book, “A Week in the Woods”, by Andrew Clements. Teacher Ashley Reith led the assembly announcing the theme, which this year is survival. The assembly included a live book trailer with staff and students.
Congratulations to Staley Upper Elementary students who participated in the 10th Annual Spelling Bee late night. They all did fantastic! The top three students are left to right: 1st place, Quinn Salce, 6th grader in Mrs. Huf's class; 2nd place, Christian Cobb, 6th grader in Mrs. Rossi's class; and 3rd place, Christopher Cobb, 6th grader in Mr. Downs class.
The Staley PTG held a Family Fitness Night on Wednesday, January 27th at the school. There were a lot of fun and recreational activities including: archery, basketball, snowshoeing, Tae Bo, Zumba, Hula Hoops, a healthy snacks table featuring parfaits and Jervis library literacy table.
Staley students are building bridges and creating opportunities for the future. Our vision at Staley is to provide all students with a safe and nurturing environment. Students from Staley Upper Elementary School in Rome placed first in the 6th grade division of the 2015 Department of Defense Math Games on Tuesday, May 19th. The event, part of Dimension U, allowed students from Staley Upper Elementary School to compete against student’s teams from across the nation in virtual adventures to help reinforce math skills.
