Ebooks Temp
Learning.com
This web site is a data base of videos that are used to teach each student how to get the most out of Microsoft Office and any computer they are using. We have several videos and activities that each student has set up to learn. They must make at least 80% on the video to pass on to the next one, but each one teaches them a skill that is envaluable to their future. Have them take you on a walk through this web site and see what they are learning.
Study Island
This web site is used either as homework assignments, computer lab work or a center in the classroom where students can go when they are finished with their assignments and their classmates are still working. This is used to help improve testing scores whether it be a test the teacher is giving them or a test the state has mandated they take. Help them as much as you can to understand what they are doing. Review any of the assignments with them and help them learn what they need to learn.
Sudoku Math Puzzles
I found this one day looking for a different Math web site or a different activity for some fun and change of pace. Once you get to the web site click on the '5th grade' block and watch what comes up next. There are a list of different educational games they can do to help improve their knowledge. Click on the Sudoku Math Puzzle link and go from there. I have tried it with some of the classes in the lab and they just love it. It is a challenge that they have all met with lots of interest. Take the challenge and see what you think of this.

On the second column of the main 5th grade page there is also a Letter Blocks game to try. It is fashioned after the video game tetris. See how well they can do with this also.
Tumble Books
This is a web site that can be used for all level readers. Once you get to the site you click on the yellow square that says Tumble Books LIbrary. On the next page you click in the username box and type in 'rome'. Then tab down to the next box and type in the word 'books' as the password. Once you get into the next screen click on chapter books for the older children to read. They are listed by grade level so each child can read something that is of interest and not too hard for them to understand. If you have headphones let the child wear them because this site will read books to you. There is also a tumble quiz the child can take to see if they really read the book and paid attention to what they read. It is a sight that can help all students of all ages through at least 6th grade learn to read better.
