The city of Rome encompasses urban as well as suburban residential areas.  Within the school district, there are tourism and recreational facilities which include Fort Stanwix National Park, Erie Canal Village, Lake Delta State Park and the Woods Valley Ski Area.  Rome is centrally located and therefore, is in close proximity to Oneida Lake, Lake Ontario, the Adirondack mountains and the Thousand Islands.  A distance of fifty miles going west takes us to Syracuse to enjoy activities associated with Syracuse University at the Carrier Dome.

Rome has an active community theater, an art and community center, and hosts performances by the Syracuse Symphony and Artists of the Great Performance Series.
