Stokes Elementary School 9095 Turin Road
First constructed in 1957 Stokes school became home to many of the surrounding one room school houses in the Town of Lee, which lies North of Rome. Charles Stokes had been postmaster at the corner of Rte. 26 and Stokes-Rome Taberg Road. The original one room school house still exists and is a private dwelling two houses from the corner on the northern side. Approximately one third of the teachers were originally one-room school house teachers. With the closing of Lake Delta school in 1997 student were sent to Stokes. In 2006 the school was closed for renovations and students were housed at Fort Stanwix. In January of 2011 the population of Stokes was 255 students. The school colors are blue and white and the Eagles have their inspirational saying of, "Soar high with the Eagles-Excelsior." |
