Ten RFA seniors awarded NYS Scholarships for Academic Excellence

Ten RFA Seniors Awarded ScholarshipsTen RFA seniors have been awarded the 2018 New York State Scholarships for Academic Excellence on Friday, January 12 at RFA. Principal Brian LeBaron and Guidance Counselors Ryan Tuggey, Maureen Nash and Deborah Daskiewich were on hand for the announcement.

Rome Free Academy selects the scholarship winners by computing a weighted average of the scores on six Regents exams: Comprehensive English (x3), Algebra 2 & Trigonometry (x3), Global Studies (x1), U.S. History/Government (x1), and two Sciences (x1 each). The scholarship applications are authorized by a high school guidance counselor and mailed to the NYS Department of Education.

Scholarship winners must attend a college or university in New York State or the award will be forfeited. The winner must be in attendance as a full-time, matriculated student at an approved New York State postsecondary institution for the fall 2018 semester to use the benefits of this scholarship. Awards are renewable for up to four academic years of undergraduate study, or five years if the program normally requires this.
