The beginning of the 2017-18 school year kicked off on September 5th with the return of staff to the Rome City School District Pre-K-12 buildings.

The Superintendent’s Conference Days featured a videotaped message from Peter C. Blake, Superintendent of Schools, along with building principals rolling out school-wide initiatives and teachers getting their classrooms ready for students.

Superintendent Blake’s message to staff included a recap of the summer, reconfiguration of the elementary schools, renovations, new teammates and partnerships, district branding initiative, strategic plan, and a message from kid president.

Blake’s talk included occasional humor, with a serious message of being respectful to one another, being positive and helping our students grow. “The reason you teach is to improve the lives of kids,” said Blake.

At Staley, Principal Julie Kimmel-Gorman invited all of her staff in the building to join her. "Our belief is that regardless of your position in the building, if you're an adult in our learning community you are a leader and you lead by example and you model behavior," said Gorman. Staley rolled out the PBIS initiative to all staff with the book, "The Energy Bus". Students will also be reading, "The Energy Bus for Kids".

Classes start tomorrow, Thursday, September 5th.
