fun in the sunThe Supported Learning Summer Program, housed at both RFA and Ridge Mills had a whirlwind of fun this year! "Each week there has been a different theme and character trait that creates a sense of community within the program,” said the program's director, Catherine Mucurio.

One of the themes included "It's a Small World" International Week. In each classroom, students studied countries and cultures from around the world, as well as the character trait, respect. RFA students and staff prepared food from a variety of countries, including Poland (pierogies), France (meringue cookies), China (pork fried rice), and Canada (poutine) for a food tasting event. Throughout the week, Ridge Mills students and staff applied their learning into international-themed door designs for a door decorating contest!

A fun-filled field day with healthy snacks was the culminating event for “Healthy Habits” Week which lead into a festive "Fun in the Sun" Beach Week where students put their skills to the test with a variety of activities during their annual luau (with ice cream donated by Stewart’s Shops). Other highlights of the program include an amazing art show at Ridge Mills, visits from the Rome Police Department to promote safe choices and build community ties, several cooking lessons to teach students essential life skills, a Ninja warrior obstacle course at SWEAT CNY and STEAM activities at both RFA and Ridge Mills!

Huge thank you to all the faculty, staff for their hard work and dedication and to all the families who allow us to have so much fun with their kids on a daily basis!  A special thank you to Kristen Meiss for sharing some of her photos!
