Honoring Heroes: John Joy's Veterans Day Assembly

On November 3rd, John Joy Elementary School gathered to honor and express gratitude to the brave men and women who have selflessly served in the U.S. Armed Forces during its annual Veterans Day assembly. Family members who are veterans of students were recognized at the assembly by calling up the student(s) to give them a handmade card and thank them for all they do. Principal Mr. Daino opened the event by talking about his Army Vietnam Veteran father. “Today reminds me of my father's sacrifice to serve and how hard it was for him to leave his family, possibly never to come home again. Every year since I learned about my father’s experience, I tell my father thank you, I love you, and tell him how brave he was,” he said.

The event aimed to instill a sense of appreciation among students for our nation's veterans' contributions, sacrifices, and unwavering dedication.

“Veterans Day is a time to show appreciation and recognize the contributions, sacrifices, and dedication of veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces during war and peace. Various events and activities, including parades, ceremonies, and community gatherings, take place on November 11th each year to pay tribute to these individuals," remarked Mr. Daino.

Special thanks go to the Art Team for the decorations and to the Music Teacher, Ms. Vicik, for organizing the Grade 5 students to sing today.

There was a reception for Veterans and their families after the assembly.
