Coach Carter visits Rome to inspire students

Renowned Coach Carter made an impactful visit to Rome, inspiring and empowering students for success. Today, on February 27, Coach Carter addressed Strough Middle School students and RFA sophomores. We extend our gratitude to the Rome Family YMCA. Bruce Hairston, the Y's branch director, shared that the organization's intention was to initiate a meaningful program within the school district to commemorate Black History Month.

Coach ‘Ken’ Carter gained fame for his coaching stint at Richmond High School in California during the 1990s. He became known for his strict discipline, high academic standards, and commitment to the personal development of his players.

Carter's story gained widespread attention and was later adapted into a biographical sports drama film titled "Coach Carter," released in 2005. The film stars Samuel L. Jackson as Coach Ken Carter. It depicts Carter's efforts to improve the lives of his players both academically and personally, and his decision to lock the gym until the players maintained a certain academic performance.
