Thankful for thinking outside of the box

Stokes second grade families stopped by the school on November 22 to hear their child read a page from their book and watch the author's signing. Afterwards they enjoyed refreshments.

“Each year we talk about what we are thankful for and create crafts that align to the topic. This year we decided to "go out of the box." We put random objects in a hat, and our students had to come up with reasons why they were thankful for the object they picked from the hat. Objects included, but we're not limited to, shoes, sandwiches, coffee, drums, baby wipes, bees, bandaids, backpacks, books, etc.,” said Second Grade Teacher, Crystal VanLieshout.

After they each wrote why they were thankful, they edited, and had the final piece published! The students were so excited to see their own work in a published book. A great way to practice writing and reading along with "Thinking outside of the Box!"
