With a dedicated team of over 75 Building Support employees, our goal is to maintain a sanitary, safe place of education free of any potential toxins or environmental harm. We have staff at each district building 7 days a week always working to ensure your children are in the cleanest and safest environment possible.

Operating from a dedicated maintenance facility, the Rome City School District's Buildings and Grounds staff serves the facility

The Custodial Department of the Rome City School District has the daily responsibility of: 

Cleaning over 1 million square feet of building space in 14 different buildings.  

A dedicated staff of (59) Custodians…(6) Maintenance Mechanics…(5) Grounds…(3) Laborers…(1) Supervisor/Energy Manager…(1)Account Manager…(1) Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds clean over 400 classrooms and 1300 plumbing fixtures on a daily basis.  

The Grounds Department is staffed with:  

Six Groundsmen and a Supervisor - responsible for mowing 182 acres of lawn that includes 35 acres of sports fields.   

Snow removal is performed on over 35 acres of parking lots and walks.   

The Grounds Department at Rome is acknowledged to have one of the best departments in Central New York.  

The Maintenance Department consists of:

A staff of eight Maintenance Mechanics, an Energy Management Technician, Secretary, and Supervisor of Maintenance.

Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all district structures, the maintenance staff performs nearly all trades including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, masonry, painting, and mechanical functions.
