Felicia Williams

Felicia James-Williams

I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. In 2004, my husband and I moved to Rome, NY, which we've been proud to call home ever since. I earned a bachelor’s degree in social science from the College of New Rochelle and began pursuing my Master's degree shortly thereafter. While I did not complete the graduate program, my educational journey provided a strong foundation for a fulfilling career in human services and meaningful community involvement.

In 2009, I began my career with the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). I currently serve as a Program Administrator for a day habilitation program that supports 52 individuals with developmental disabilities. I lead a dedicated team of 21 staff members who work daily to provide quality care, meaningful engagement, and support.

Beyond my professional role, I am actively involved in my community. I teach Sunday School at Kingdom Harvest Apostolic Church in Rome and serve as the 1st Vice President of the Rome Branch of the NAACP. I’m also a proud member of the African American Heritage Association, where I help celebrate and preserve the rich history and contributions of our community.

I am a mother to a sophomore at Rome Free Academy and an aunt to a senior at the same school. As a parent and family member, I am deeply invested in the success, safety, and well-being of our students. I believe that when we support and uplift our youth, we strengthen the future of our entire community.

My qualifications for being elected to the Rome City School District Board of Education stem from my lifelong involvement and commitment to the Rome community in various capacities. My deep-rooted connection to the community is clear and I believe in its growth and development.

My firsthand experience with the Rome school system is extensive, with both of my children having navigated their education within it. This personal insight into the educational journey of students and the operational dynamics of the district has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of its strengths and areas for improvement.

I have managed and led a non-profit recreation girls basketball league that operated within the Rome School District. This role and being a volunteer firefighter have sharpened my organizational and leadership skills, enabling me to work effectively with others and within a team. My ability to collaborate and openness to change will be valuable in fostering a positive and cooperative environment within the Board of Education.

I recognize the critical importance of setting actionable goals to enhance student achievements and create more opportunities for growth. My commitment to this principle is solid, and I am dedicated to implementing strategies that will benefit both students and educators alike.

There is no singular issue pushing my application for the school board; rather, it is my love for the community and pride in our school district that motivates me. I am driven by a desire to see our students and teachers thrive, and I am eager to contribute to the decision-making processes that shape our district's future. With the chance to exert more influence and provide valuable input on crucial matters, I am determined to support and advocate for initiatives that will promote growth and excellence within the Rome City School District.
