The Rome City School District proudly joins communities across New York State in celebrating School Board Recognition Week.
Recognized October 13-17 by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA), School Board Recognition Week honors the service and commitment of school board members and highlights the vital role they play in shaping the future of public education. The special week also provides an opportunity to raise awareness and appreciation for the countless hours board members devote to supporting students, families, and staff.
“It is my honor to recognize and celebrate each member of the Rome City School District Board of Education during School Board Recognition Week,” said Superintendent of Schools, Ms. Nerlande Anselme. “Their tireless efforts, thoughtful leadership, and unwavering commitment to providing the best possible educational experience for our students strengthen our schools and community every single day. We are deeply grateful for their service—not just this week, but throughout the year.”
School board members are champions for public education, ensuring that every student has access to opportunities that lead to success. As noted by NYSSBA, the essential work of school boards includes:
· Adopting a shared vision and goals for the district
· Aligning strategies, resources, policies, and programs with those goals
· Assessing and providing accountability for student achievement
· Fostering a healthy and supportive school culture
· Evaluating district superintendents to promote continuous improvement
The Rome City School District Board of Education is composed of seven elected community members who volunteer their time, energy, and expertise to guide district policy and fiscal oversight. Their leadership and advocacy make a meaningful difference in the lives of Rome’s students and families every day.
The district proudly recognizes and thanks its Board of Education members for their outstanding service and dedication:
· Sue Carvelli, President
· Jennifer Yoxall, Vice President
· Jeff DeMatteis
· Paula Witt
· Nadia Rashid
· Kirstin Safin
· Johnathan Roland
As part of the week’s celebrations, a special recognition of each board member will take place during the Rome Board of Education meeting on Monday, October 20.
