The Rome City School District is pleased to welcome Carolyn Getchell as its new Nurse Practitioner.
In her role, Getchell oversees all health-related activities and provides direct nurse practitioner services to students within the Rome City School District, including performing health appraisals, medical evaluations, and physical examinations. She also is responsible for identifying and addressing individual health care needs within students’ educational programs.
“We are delighted to welcome Carolyn Getchell to the Rome family as the district’s Nurse Practitioner,” said Superintendent of Schools, Ms. Nerlande Anselme. “Getchell brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position, including dedicated roles serving our Rome community. Through her skills, knowledge, and devotion to both the field and the community, I am confident that Getchell will lead our district’s health care team to ensure our students and families are provided with exceptional care and services.”
Getchell joins the district with extensive experience in providing direct patient care across all age groups, in addition to a strong foundation in urgent care and emergency medicine. Prior to her arrival at RCSD, Getchell served as the Nurse Practitioner for six WellNow Urgent Care sites across the Central New York region, as well as an Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner at Rome Health.
Getchell’s experience also includes serving as a Registered Nurse for the Rome Memorial Hospital Emergency Room and for several Intensive Care Units at Upstate University Hospital. She also has a strong background working in education through previous roles as a middle school math and science teacher, tutor and basketball coach.
"I'm honored and excited to start this new chapter as a Nurse Practitioner with the Rome City School District,” Getchell said. “Since my arrival, I have had the opportunity to work closely with an amazing and dedicated team of nurses to help promote student health and wellness.”
A native of Rome, Getchell is a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse, is NYS EMT-Basic certified, and holds numerous life support certifications.
“Growing up here in Rome, I know how important our schools are to the community,” Getchell said. “I’m proud to be able to give back by supporting our kids' success, safety, and wellbeing. With the help of parents, teachers, and staff, we can make sure every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive!"
Getchell earned a Family Nurse Practitioner Master of Science degree from SUNY Polytechnic Institute, an Accelerated Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Utica University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science with a Minor in Education from Cornell University. She also successfully completed the WellNow Urgent Care Fellowship Program.
