In partnership with the Rome African American Heritage Association (AAHA) and the Rome NAACP, the Rome City School District invites you to join us in celebrating Black History Month during a special event on Tuesday, February 10, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Rome Free Academy Auditorium.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will honor and highlight this year’s Black History Month theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” with a special emphasis on the spirit of being an overcomer and overcoming, hand-in-hand. The celebration will include an evening of music, performances, storytelling, art, and poetry through contributions by RCSD students, staff, community partners, and special guests.
Brother Courtney Muhammad, Stu. Minister and Owner/Manager of The Carol L. Crooms Business, Education and Cultural Activities (B.E.C.A.) Center, will serve as keynote speaker for the event. The program will also include performances by the RFA Concert Choir and the nonprofit youth organization, Utica Royalties, as well as guest speakers from both the AAHA and NAACP and poetry readings by students.
A small reception open to all guests will also be held in the RFA lobby directly following the event.
