(UPDATE, 11:32 a.m., 6/9/26): National Grid has informed us that the gas leak has been repaired.

While this is encouraging news, there is still a lingering gas odor within the building. Given these circumstances, we remain confident that closing Ridge Mills for today was the right decision based on the information available at the time, and one made with the safety of our students and staff as our top priority.

Please know that all students remain safe, and we appreciate the patience, understanding, and flexibility our families have shown throughout this situation. We anticipate that Ridge Mills will reopen as normal tomorrow, Wednesday, June 10.

Due to a gas leak reported in the area surrounding Ridge Mills, and in consultation with emergency responders and utility officials, we have made the decision to close Ridge Mills for the remainder of today out of an abundance of caution. The roads leading to the school are currently closed, and the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

First and foremost, please know that all students are safe.

Students who are currently on school buses are being transported back home. Before a student is released from the bus, our Transportation Department will verify that a parent, guardian, or another authorized adult is present to receive them.

If we are unable to verify that someone is home, the student will be transported to Strough, where district staff will ensure they remain safe, supported, and supervised until a parent or guardian is able to pick them up. We will continue working to make contact with families and assist with any necessary arrangements.

We understand that situations like this can be stressful and concerning for families. Please know that every decision being made is guided by one priority: the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work through this unexpected situation together.

We are working closely with emergency responders and utility officials and will continue to keep you informed as more information becomes available and once the area has been deemed safe.
