Rome is Home: Shaping tomorrow, one student at a time

The Rome City School District (CSD) is excited to announce the launch of “Rome is Home: Progress in Action,” a series highlighting ongoing initiatives and measurable accomplishments that support student success and reflect the district's commitment to continuous improvement.

Since unveiling the district’s four-year strategic plan, "Rome is Home...Shaping Tomorrow, One Student at a Time,” during the 2024-25 school year, Rome CSD has remained focused on strengthening teaching and learning, expanding opportunities for students, and building a strong foundation for future success.

Academic Progress

Rome CSD is especially proud of the academic strides that have been achieved during the past two years. While New York State assessment results for the 2025–2026 school year are not yet available, the district is proud to share several achievements that demonstrate meaningful academic progress since July 2024, including:

  • Elementary and middle school English Language Arts proficiency increased by 7%.

  • Science proficiency increased by 9% in Grade 5 and 13% in Grade 8.

  • The district's graduation rate increased from 74% to 78%, reflecting continued progress in helping more students earn a diploma.

  • Participation in New York State assessments increased by 10%, providing a more comprehensive measure of student learning and achievement.

  • Students with disabilities experienced meaningful gains, with graduation rates increasing from 57% to 61% and the dropout rate declining from 14% to 10%.

  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities continue to expand, including the addition of a Welding program beginning in Fall 2026, providing students with additional pathways to college and career success.

"These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our students, staff, families, Board of Education, and community partners," said Rome CSD Superintendent of Schools, Nerlande Anselme. "While there is always more work to do, we are encouraged by the progress we are making together. Every improvement represents opportunities created for students and reinforces our commitment to providing a high-quality education for every child."

The district's strategic plan and its four pillars continue to guide this work, ensuring that every decision remains focused on student learning, growth, and long-term success.

Future “Rome is Home: Progress in Action” updates will highlight additional areas of district progress, including student safety, student support services, leadership development, community partnerships, and operational excellence.
