The Rome City School District is proud to recognize Emily Dodd, a Rome Free Academy biology teacher, as the Rome Riser staff selection for the month of October.
The Rome Risers spotlight highlights outstanding individuals who contribute to making the Rome City School District an exceptional place to learn, work, and grow. With multiple nominations, Emily Dodd is an exemplary model of what it means to be a Rome Riser. Her colleagues commend her professionalism, diligence, and commitment to her students and the community.
“Emily is one of the hardest-working people I know. Her leadership has been the driving force behind many improvements in instruction that we have made in our science department,” shared one of her nominators. “She works tirelessly to give every student the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to succeed. I cannot imagine our department without Emily in it!”
Dodd has 24 years of experience in education, having joined the Rome City School District in 2018. Although she initially joined Rome CSD as an assistant principal, she found herself missing the science classroom. “Joining the science department at RFA is when I really found my home," Dodd shared. “My colleagues are collaborative, creative, and deeply invested in helping students reach their potential. Being surrounded by such talent pushes me to continue to grow in my practice every day.”
Dodd’s dedication to her students has not gone unnoticed. Notably, at the end of the school year, she spent countless hours beyond the school day assisting two students in completing their New York State laboratory investigations, helping them achieve the required 1,200 lab minutes necessary to be eligible for the June Regents Examination. Additionally, she frequently used her planning periods to offer extra support to her students, ensuring that they had every opportunity to meet these important requirements.
Another nominator emphasized the impact that Dodd has on the district. “Emily consistently demonstrates an unwavering commitment to student success. Beyond her dedication to academics, she fosters meaningful relationships with both students and colleagues alike. She creates a supportive, inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and encouraged to succeed. Her professionalism, compassion, and willingness to go above and beyond make her an invaluable member of the Rome Free Academy community.”
Dodd’s actions reflect the very best of the Rome City School District. Her tireless work ethic, commitment to excellence, and genuine care for those she serves have left a positive impact that extends well beyond the classroom and is felt throughout our school community.
