On June 27, Rome Free Academy celebrated 348 graduates from the Class of 2025 during the Rome City School District’s 156th Commencement Ceremony—a proud evening marked by tradition, reflection, and celebration.
The evening began with the Presentation of Colors by the JROTC and a moving recognition of graduates entering military service. Student Government President Even Lewthwaite offered a warm welcome, followed by greetings from Board of Education President Cassie Knutti and Principal Brian LeBaron.
Superintendent Ms. Nerlande Anselme delivered a heartfelt message, sharing her gratitude for being part of the students’ final year. “In this short time together, I’ve come to admire your strength and spirit,” she said. She celebrated their achievements—an 83% college-bound rate, over $1.5 million in scholarships, and more than 2,000 college credits earned—as a sign of their determination and promise. “Whether your journey takes you far from Rome or keeps you close to home—Rome will always be home,” she reminded them.
Salutatorian Caitlin Platis and Valedictorian Abdullah Shaik delivered inspiring addresses, and the RFA Concert Choir and Winterguard moved the audience with “You Will Be Found.” Grace Riolo, Class of 2025 President, offered parting words, and the evening closed with the presentation of diplomas, final remarks by Vice President Karl van Hoesel, and the turning of the tassels.
The ceremony celebrated not only the accomplishments of the Class of 2025 but the bright future that lies ahead.
