It was a beautiful day for a ball game – and a celebration!
The Rome City School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Rome Free Academy Athletics Complex this past Thursday, where the beautiful new tennis courts and baseball and softball fields were unveiled ahead of home matches for each team.
Student-athletes and coaches from those respective sports were joined by school and district administrators, community leaders, families, and fans to celebrate the special occasion. To kick off the event, opening remarks were provided by RCSD Director of Athletics Aaron Carey, RCSD Superintendent of Schools Nerlande Anselme, RCSD Board of Education President Sue Carvelli, City of Rome Mayor Jeffrey Lanigan, and the RFA captains from the baseball, softball, and tennis teams. The captains then joined guests around home plate for the official ribbon cutting, followed by ceremonial first pitches on the baseball and softball fields and a ceremonial serve on the tennis courts.
Thank you to our school and district leaders, Food Services and Facilities teams, students, families, and community for their assistance in making the day so memorable, as well as to our capital project partners, RCSD Board of Education, Common Council, Mayor Lanigan, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, and NYS Senator Joseph A. Griffo for their participation, support, and vision to make this project possible.
Go Black Knights!
